Trip to the south-west for a NYE party in Bude and hopefully a few days
sailing...
Left folks house near Peterborough v early 7.30am with the aim of getting
to Westward Ho by early afternoon for a couple of hours on the water before
dark and heading onto the weekend party venue. It was snowing(!) when I
left, couldn't quite believe that I was to be windsurfing later today...
The snow soon turned to rain and it pissed it down all the way to North
Devon. Arrived WH 1pm and it was proper windy, onshore slightly cross from
the left, and still raining. Met up with Tiree Mark who had already been
out there, well powered on a 4.5 he said. Just I was starting to rig up,
rain stopped and sun came out...woohoo! Still just as windy but due to the
onshore-ness I rigged bigger (5.2) and took out my (new) '03 Skate 90
instead of the wave board. Well powered on this combination but still was
not the best of sessions. The onshore wind and constant walls of
white-water pushing in made getting out back very difficult, and several
ice-cream-head rinsings had to be endured. Still, no complaints, a decent
couple of hours in sun and proper wind. The new board felt very nice and
good for the onshore wave conditions but a bigger and more swept-back fin
would be useful.
